Eating & Drinking

The apartment is equipped and set up for you to do dinners, tapas, and all kinds of food, but you will probably want to go out for at least a few meals while on holiday – we certainly do! So here’s some recommendations.

Fuengirola

Head to the square, Plaza Chinorros, and you’ll find a number of restaurants and a lively location to sit outside late into the evening.

We’d recommend sitting outside at MO by Picoteo, which does good tapas and good wine.

For another great option, head around the corner to Casa Pasta for filling dishes and great service. They have two restaurants and also do 'all day dining' - which is something to look out for if you, or the kids, want to eat earlier than the locals.

If it’s just a drink you want, our favourite is Nautic Bar, which will serve you great cocktails and bowl after bowl of crisps to snack on!

During the day, we’d say head to the beachfront and get some freshly grilled fish and a glass of rose on the terrace at Gali Gali Chiringuito.

Finally, for lighter evening options, you’ll find a great selection of street food places in La Galería Gastromercado. And you can always visit Heladería La Abuela on the main Plaza del a Constitucion for an after dinner ice cream.

Mijas

For a day out in Mijas Pueblo, there’s one place we’d highly recommend, and that’s Aboka! We’re sure there are many other places that are also great, but the small plates and great variety means this is where we come back to time and again.

La Cala de Mijas

A short drive down the coast brings you to La Cala and, if you spend an evening here, you should really start it outside at Vinoteca Pura Cepa, a bar that specializes in wine by the glass and G&T. Go for a glass of sherry as an aperitivo.

After that, El Gusto is right across the street and serves fantastic dishes and a good variety, from burgers to ribs. It’s also right next door to the local Irish bar, which is a good place to watch sports if that’s your thing.

There are some great choices on the beach too, such as Olivia’s, which serves fine dining and seafood from a great terrace with sea views.

But, our final recommendation in La Cala is El Cortijillo. This is a bustling, friendly Spanish place where you can expect good humour and hearty local meals. If you’re looking for paella, make a reservation here and expect to spend an enjoyable few hours.

Right next door!

Of course, it wouldn’t be right not to mention the bars and restaurants right on your doorstep!

First up, the complex itself has a nice bar and restaurant – but at time of writing (Feb 2023) it’s closed – we’ll publish an update as soon as we know it’s going to be open again.)

About a three minute walk down the road is El Golf, a nice place for food or a drink that also has live entertainment on weekends. It looks small from the road, but opens up and has a lovely outside area downstairs overlooking the golf course.

A few minutes further on is Venta La Morena which does fantastic pork dishes, and Hoyo 19. Both of these are great options if you want to stay super local, maybe after a day trip out. And, because it’s Spain, they both stay open late.

You’ll find more good restaurants dotted around, but just a few minutes further down the road our final mention goes to Asador Otola, which has a lively vibe and is a good place to spend an evening.
