Trips and activities

The surrounding area is great for families with plenty to do, day or night. There's kid-friendly beaches, loads of great activities and everything you want for a holiday in the sun.

Here's a magnificent seven things to do near the apartment when you want to keep the kids occupied.

1.Bioparc Fuengirola

Top of the list is the gorgeous little zoo that doesn't cage the animals but houses them in a first-rate family attraction, full of adventurous pathways through recreated tropical forest, with real vegetation and water features like waterfalls.

At the Bioparc Fuengirola, you'll find everything from crocodiles, and pygmy hippos, to gibbons, gorillas and Borneo Orangutans.

In the summer you can book a “moonlight visit” to get glimpses of nocturnal animals that would normally be hiding or asleep during daylight hours.

You can buy tickets online here:

2. Costa Water Park

When you're up for getting the little ones a bit more active, you couldn't do much better than grab a one-hour pass the the floating playground of Costa Water Park.

They’ll be fitted with lifejackets and will be supervised while they climb, run and slide around an inflatable adventure course which is in the shallow waters, just a few metres from the shore.

3. AquaMijas

And if they still haven't had enough of the water, another great alternative is Aquamijas. Also known as Parque Acuatico Mijas water park, this a little water park that tends to be quieter, even in high season. It's got a range of slides to suit all ages, as well as a climbing wall, jacuzzis and mini-golf.

4. Beaches

Back on shore, and you'll find Fuengirola boasts three Blue Flag beaches, with exceptional standards of hygiene and top-notch amenities.

The main beach is Playa de Fuengirola, which runs all the way up to the marina. It's got lovely soft sand, smooth waters and a broad range of beach bars and delicious tapas.

Head to the quieter end of Fuengirola, and the beach there is Boliches-Gaviotas, which is a bit broader and a little quieter. The Paseo Maritimo runs the full length of both and will be full of walkers, joggers, cyclists and roller-skaters no matter the time of year.

Finally, Torreblanca, is quieter still. There's a few useful facilities here like water sports centres and food kiosks, but it also offers more seclusion.

5. Sould Park

If you're done with the buckets and spades, another favourite for families is a mini amusement attraction, Sould Park, which is full of games and rides for kids up to about eight or nine.

You'll find it between the marina and Paseo Marítimo and can expect carousels, bumper boats, and a small Ferris wheel; as well as large bouncy castles, trampolines and inflatable slides.

It's all themed like a jungle and desert island and, for bigger kids, there’s a “Play Zone”, with air hockey and skeeball.

And, don't worry, there's also a cafe-bar with outdoor seating.

6. Watersports

For even older kids, Fuengirola has its own marina, which is great news if you want some marine-based fun in the Mediterranean.

There's a few different companies based there who offer tubing, wakeboarding, parasailing and water-skiing.

If you’d rather something a bit more relaxing, you can book onto a cruise out into the mirrored waters of the open sea to spot dolphins, or even charter a yacht for a day or two.

7. Solhail Castle

Finally, after all that fun, if you want to drag the kids round a castle, but don't want to go all the way to Malaga or Granada, Solhail Castle is on the doorstep.

Built by the Córdoban Caliph, Abd -ar-Rahman III in the 10th century as a citadel with a watchtower, this bulky coastal defence is used for concerts on some summer evenings, but you can walk around it during the day. There's particularly good views of the resort from the gun positions, if you can face the steep climb to the top.

During the Peninsular War in the early-18th century the castle was a base for Napoleon’s French Army, repelling a siege and helping to defeat a British corps in the Battle of Fuengirola in 1810.
